RE: GLUG Kickstart Meeting ; Proposed Ideas In Meeting

Monthly project donation: Choose an open source project per month. Members put contributions (optional) of their choice into (cheap web hosting) a pool during the month. At the end of each month the pool is donated to the project either in funds or hardware purchases or any other way like (internet marketing). Recommended hardware and vendors page: Page of recommended hardware and vendors to support GNU maintains a page for this. Perhaps link to that List some open source friendly vendors and perhaps a few points on why supporting these vendors is important in the long run. TV/radio advert on free/open software? Discuss how useful an advert on free/open software might be to get general public awareness. Government initiative: Throw some ideas around to see how we might be able to get government to better support and appreciate open standards (and open source as a by-product?). Page with places offering gnu/linux training.

A lot of people recognize the importance of keeping staff up to date with what’s going on. That’s why a regular staff meetings is giving the staff the opportunity to get together and meet colleagues from different departments. Do take the opportunity to attend staff meetings, they are a great way to find out more about what’s going on and mix with people you don’t normally get to meet. Arrangements are always made by managers to ensure staff can attend and if the meeting is in your non-working time or vacations you will always get paid or receive time of in lieu for your attendance.
